The Broncos came into the game as the 24th ranked team in the country and they didn’t disappoint as they jumped all over the Zips to start the contest. They were led by running back Jarvion Franklin with a school record 283 yards on the ground and 1 rushing touchdown.
Franklin matched Akron’s offense for the day as the Zips, as a team, were held to 283 yards. Western Michigan scored on their 1st 4 drives and would never look back in this contest; they were never threatened.
The Zips were led by QB Tra’Von Chapman, 13/31 for 153 yards while throwing 2 interceptions. The Zips were 4 of 12 on 3rd downs and could never keep a drive going, where as Western Michigan was 14 of 18 on such downs.
The Zips had opportunities early but miscues and bad decisions ruled the day for the Zips.
“We played a better football team today”, Coach Terry Bowden said after the game.
Akron now falls to 4-3, 2-1 MAC while the Broncos improve to 7-0, 3-0 MAC. Up next for the Zips is a matchup at Ball State next Saturday afternoon.
