The Cleveland Monsters defeated the Milwaukee Admirals in overtime on Friday at in front of 11,213 fans at The Q by a final score of 3-2.
With the win, the Monsters are now 25-23-6-1 overall this season and with 57 points, remain alone in sixth place in the AHL’s North Division standings.
After a scoreless opening period, Milwaukee’s Justin Kirkland tallied an even-strength goal at 3:23 of the second to make it 1-0 Admirals before Cleveland’s Kole Sherwood posted an extra-man marker at 6:07 to level the score, courtesy of helpers from Sam Vigneault and Doyle Somerby.
Milwaukee made it 2-1 with a five-on-five finish from Yakov Trenin at 15:24, but late in the middle stanza, in his return to the lineup following a 14-game injury absence, Zac Dalpe lit the lamp for the Monsters on the power-play at 18:06 to tie the game at two with Tommy Cross collecting the lone assist on the play.
After a scoreless third period, Dalpe struck again with a spin-o-rama, three-on-three finish just 16 seconds into the extra session to deliver the Monsters a 3-2 overtime victory with Mark Letestu posting the play’s only helper.
Cleveland goaltender Jean-Francois Berube stopped 32 of the 35 shots he faced to improve to 17-16-5 this season while Milwaukee’s Tom McCollum fell to 9-9-8 between the pipes this year despite a 32-save performance.
