You mean the world doesn’t revolve around CLE Sports?

With so many of us on vacation or wishing for said time, we often forget there are other things in sports besides the Cavs, Browns and Guardians. So, we at NEOSI give you our new segment: You mean the world doesn’t revolve around CLE Sports?

ACFC vs Cleveland SC

Finally! Akron City FC and Cleveland SC play their final match Saturday evening in downtown Akron with much on the line. ACFC hold the 2nd place in the Great Lakes Conference, seven points behind leader Steel City, but this match with CSC will see the winner inch closer to Steel City and really leave the loser out of the playoffs.

Akron has been as hot as the weather, winning four of their last five. Their only loss was a tough 2-1 battle against Steel City. Cleveland SC started off with beating their Ohio rival but with back to back losses two weeks ago in away matches, CSC needs this win to stay in the playoff hunt.

Tickets available here. Game time is set for 7 PM at Green Street Stadium on the campus of Akron St Vincent-St Mary.

LPGA

The ladies of golf have their major this week at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Washington. One of the incredible stories this year has been the play of Nelly Korda. Korda won an astounding five tournaments in a row and six of seven by the end of May. She has missed the cut in her last two but she plans on being around all weekend due to her driving.

“So overall, I mean, if you have the length you may as well – you have to hit it. This is the type of golf course where you just got to sack up and hit your driver.”

She is the favorite heading into today’s first round. Other women favorites include Ayaka Furue and Megan Kang, who’d love nothing better than to grab her first major! Her 2nd place finish last week at the ShopRite LPGA Classic gives her confidence heading into the major at a course where driving straight will be an absolute premium!

US Men’s National Team

COPA America 2024 starts today with Argentina and its native son, Lionel Messi, battling our neighbors up north (Canada), eh! The US is looking to make it to the finals at Miami on July 14th, but it’s highly unlikely.

Here’s the general streaming information:

The US play their first Copa America match Sunday evening at the home of the Dallas Cowboys, AT&T Stadium. Their opponent, Bolivia, is ranked #84 in FIFA’s country rankings.

MLS FCC and Crew

Even while the US Men’s National Team is active in their competition, FC Cincinnati and the Columbus Crew are still playing their MLS contests. FCC is continuing their winning ways after an incredible 4-3 over the Philadelphia Union on a late goal in stoppage time Wednesday night.

Acosta’s game winner at the death!

The Crew, the defending MLS champions, lost to Miami, 2-1, Wednesday and currently sit in 6th place in the MLS Eastern Conference. Cincinnati sits in 2nd behind Inter Miami, but have played two fewer games and can leapfrog Miami with two wins.

Columbus plays at home Saturday as does FCC. So, if you live somewhere near these two cities, drop in to TQL Stadium (Cincinnati) or Lower.com Field (Columbus) for fun on Saturday evening.

Euros 2024

While we are on the soccer talk, the European nations are battling for summer supremacy in Germany as the Euros 2024 competition heats up. Italy is trying to defend their 2020 crown, but Germany would love to win while hosting the tournament. Don’t sleep on the Netherlands, though!

As they say in the Netherlands, “If you ain’t Dutch, you ain’t much!”

FOX Sports and fubo are streaming events on different platforms, so you need to keep a guide handy to follow. (As if Cavs fans aren’t used to this garbage of streaming!)

NHL Stanley Cup Finals: Edmonton vs Florida

Edmonton went into the NHL finals hoping to win north of the border for the first time since 1993. But after an 0-3 start to the best of seven series, Sunday night is now a game 7 winner-take-all! The only team to come back from being down 0-3 in the finals were

the Toronto Maple Leafs as they defeated the Detroit Red Wings in 1942.

Could it be the reason for this Edmonton Oiler comeback is the female Oiler fan? IYKYK!

Stay well and God bless!
