WWE Backlash is live tonight from the Prudential Arena in Newark, New Jersey. It is a show featuring both RAW and Smackdown brands. It also a card featuring a lot of fallout from both WrestleMania and The Greatest Royal Rumble.
While this one doesn’t require much deep thinking, as with the sole exception of Daniel Bryan’s first singles PPV match in 3 years, there isn’t a whole lot selling tickets. The card does warrant some quick predicts, and here they are.
Bayley vs Ruby Riot
If Bayley doesn’t win this one, she might as well quit as the WWE has nothing for her. The only thing that makes this intriguing is what role Sasha Banks decides to play in it. If she turns on Bayley, then we have something.
Braun Strowman & Bobby Lashley vs KO and Sami Zayn
The greatest and smartest thing the WWE can do here is have KO and Zayn win. They need the rub to get their latest WWE RAW run off to a huge start. Creative forces will blow this one and give it to Strowman and Lashley as it is clear they are grooming Strowman for a title run.
Daniel Bryan vs Big Cass
What can I say, this is almost identical to the above match. Why not get Cass off to a good start upon his return. A loss to a guy half his size will crush any momentum. I actually think this one needs to end with a DQ. As lame as that is, anything other then a Cass victory kills him.
Roman Reigns vs Samoa Joe
Well this match makes no sense. Absolutely no sense. Let’s go ahead and pick Joe just for the heck of it I guess.
In the title matches below the champion will be listed second.
Charlotte Flair vs Carmella for Smackdown’s Women’s Title
The WWE needs to get the title back on Charlotte as soon as possible and start the 11 month run towards Mania and Rousey.
Alexa Bliss vs Nia Jax for RAW Women’s Title
Alexa Bliss is the best women’s wrestler on the WWE roster, it won’t matter however. The title will stay with the clumsy and lack of charisma Nia Jax.
Randy Orton vs Jeff Hardy for the United States Championship
Orton loses and then turns heel with an epic post match beat down of Hardy.
The Miz vs Seth Rollins for the IC Championship
How did The Miz even get this title shot? I mean he deserves it, but much bigger things await The Miz. Rollins will stay red hot and retain. This one almost seems like a throw away match.
Shinksuke Nakemura vs AJ Styles for The WWE World Heavyweight Champion
Without Brock Lesnar on the card, this match will get the time and slot it deserves. In a twist of irony, it will be Syles low blowing his way to victory as the WWE doesn’t appear sold on Nakamura carrying a major title in the company. (yet)
