Statistically it’s not as favorable going up against a small sample size versus a bigger one. Also, a five dollar bet will only win you eight dollars where a double up can get you ten. This may not seem like a big difference but the more you spend the more significant that change is.
Instead, I like to do bigger money double up leagues. It pays 2:1 and you usually have to finish in the top 44% to win. In other words, against a wider amount of people, all you have to do is pretty much beat out just over half which is more likely than taking your odds against one person.
If you have a good week, you are guaranteed to be in the money.
I’m a fan of doing bigger amounts here such as twenty-five or fifty dollars a week. So far I’ve won four out of five weeks on it, and it’s a nice way to increase your winnings each week.
It’s not going to bring the same kind of glamour as a tournament which I’ll get into next, but it can keep your winnings going each week and if you win four more weeks than lose, it’s still an extra one or two hundred dollars at the end of the season.
