In a back and forth match, it was the Demons on the strength of seven pins defeating SWC rival Amherst Steele.
Cole Yuhas led off the scoring for the Demons with a fall and after a forfeit win by Hatem Zayed , Westlake led 12-0.
The Comets would come right back and take the lead with a major decision, a fall and a decision, 13-12 heading into the 138 matchup.
At 138, Aman Ali got the pin for the Demons to put them back into the lead, 18-13 but the Comets stormed right back winning the next two bouts by a major decision and a fall. The score heading into the 160 pound matchup had the comets in front, 23-18.
Liam Kruger vaulted the Demons on top with a fall of his own, 24-23 but an upset of Hunter Ashburn put Amherst back in the lead 29-24.
Moe Zayed picked up a pin for the Demons at 182 pounds and Westlake took the 30-29 lead. Amherst elected to bump up their lineup, giving Connor Gregory a forfeit win and a 36-29 advantage and Gavin Carmichael made them pay by getting the first period fall and clinching the dual win for Westlake.
Adam Abuan put the ribbon on top with a thrilling come from behind fall for the final score, 48-29. The Demons move to 2-0 at home this season and 1-0 in SWC dual action.
They return to the mats next with two day tournament at Eastlake North in the Vince Matteucci Memorial Invitational. |
