When the Western Michigan Bronco’s finished the season 13-0, it had everyone excited for the MAC and questioning why the Bronco’s didn’t make the playoffs? At 13-0, it was only natural to make a case for them.
However, two weeks into the Bowl season, most talk of the MAC conference being worthy of playoff talk, has disappeared with an awful showing. The MAC has gone 0-5 already, and the Broncos remain the only team left that can possibly capture a win when they collide with the Wisconsin Badgers in the Cotton Bowl.
Suddenly, a 13-0 season doesn’t look as impressive based on the showing of the teams they beat. This is a true disappointment for the MAC as they typically hold their own in postseason play.
So far, things cannot have gone worse for the little conference that could!
The Camellia Bowl saw Appalachian St. Defeating Toledo 31-28
The Miami Beach Bowl had Tulsa crush Central Michigan 55 -10
The Dollar General Bowl saw Ohio lose to Troy in a 28-23 tight contest.
It just kept getting worse as Old Dominion topped Eastern Michigan 24-20 in the Bahamas Bowl.
Finally, the pain continued over the holiday weekend when Mississippi St beat Miami (OH) 17-16 in the St. Petersburgh Bowl.
Here’s the thing, as bad as the 0-5 record is, all that can go away and the hype can be front and center once again if Western Michigan knocks off Wisconsin. If that happens, no one will be talking about the 1-5 the MAC went in Bowl Play, they will only focus on the fact that the MAC beat the BIG Ten in a major Bowl Game.
Time will tell…..
