Thomas, Randle bury Cavs
A 22-6 rally to cap off the third quarter put the Cavs in a 16-point rut, the largest margin of the game. Isaiah Thomas spearheaded the charge, tallying the final six points of the four-minute, 37-second offensive onslaught.
More of the same lopsidedness ensued in the fourth.
Thomas scored his team’s first eight points, including his signature floating jump shot, his weave-through-the-defense layup and the pullup jumper. The string of scoring yielded a 106-92 deficit, and a bad taste for a team that traded Thomas just over one month ago.
Julius Randle complimented his left-handed counterpart with ease, playing off the pick-and-roll to finish with 36 points – exceeding his previous career-high of 32 points set on March 15, 2017 – on 14-of-18 shooting, 14 rebounds and seven assists. The team’s injuries to Brandon Ingram (left groin strain) and Josh Hart (left hand/fourth metacarpal fracture) have carved out an even larger workload for Randle moving forward.
Los Angeles had four of its players score 20-or-more points: Randle (36), Brook Lopez (22), Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (20) and Thomas (20).
