Green unable to capitalize with starting opportunity
With Rodney Hood (low back strain) and Cedi Osman (left hip strain) sitting out, Green figured to take on an elevated role in his first NBA start since Feb. 15, 2017.
The valuable chance to prove himself fell short of expectations once again.
Green could only tally seven points on 2-of-8 shooting from the field and 1-of-3 from beyond the perimeter over 22 minutes of playing time. He is now 4-of-24 (16.7 percent) on three-point field goal attempts dating back to Feb. 11, allowing defenders to sag off from him and protect the interior portions of the court.
Hood is day-to-day and Osman is out for two weeks, meaning Green could be in line for at least one more start. His lack of recent production could amplify the negative impact of the injury-riddled roster even further.
The 31-year-old forward appears to be at the tail end of his career, registering a career-worst 39.4 percent shooting clip in 2016-17 before entering play with a 32 percent shooting mark in March 2018 alone.
Cleveland signed Green to a one-year deal worth $2.3 million on July 11, 2017.
