The fans have spoken, and after a close race, we have a winner for this week’s Player of the Week award. Garnering 30% of the vote, D’Shawntae Jones of the Glenville Tarblooders is this week’s winner. Jones scored four TDs in the second quarter to lead the Tarblooders to victory. The senior rushed 11 times for a total of 133 yards in the win over Dinwiddie.
Glenville got off to a slow start at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. They trailed 7-0 in the first quarter. Jones started the Tarblooders explosive second half scoring a TD on the first play. He took off for a 51 yard score and never pumped the brakes. The senior running back went on to score three more TDs while scoring on four consecutive touches in the second quarter. Glenville’s coach Ted Ginn had this to say after the game regarding Jones: “I think he is a Big Ten back for real,” Ginn said. “I think he is Mr. Ohio.”
Congratulations and good luck to our other three candidates as they hade very impressive outings in Week One: Marquise Davis (Cleveland Heights), DaOne Owens (Massillon Tigers), Sean Patrick (Kenston)
