What started with 448 teams is down to 112, as regional semifinal action kicks off Friday night. Countless athletes turned in big time performances when they needed it the most and it was a tough task to narrow down the field. We’ve come up with the top four performances and it is now up to you, the fan, to decide who brings home this week’s honors. Who do you think should be NEOSI Player of the Week? Danny Stoddard, Medina
Now holding all of the Medina County single season passing records, the Bees junior continues to rack up big time stats. In their 49-35 win over Wadsworth, Stoddard went 23-40 for 388 yards and four touchdowns. On the ground, Stoddard also scored three times, having a hand in all seven of Medina’s touchdowns. Up next for the Bees is a regional semifinal showdown with Mentor at Twinsburg High School. The two GCC rivals squared off in Week 7, Medina coming away with a 52-38 victory.
Lamar Sperling, Hoban
Lamar Sperling may be the biggest name in Northeast Ohio football, and he reminds everyone why every time he takes the field. In Hoban’s 41-13 regional quarterfinal win over Barberton, the senior RB went off, finishing with 261 yards and four touchdowns on 28 carries. A leading candidate for the prestigious Mr. Football award, Sperling has run the ball 275 times for 2,658 yards and 41 touchdowns. The Knights face a big rematch Friday night with rival St. Vincent St. Mary (8-4) at InfoCision Stadium in Akron. The Knights won the first matchup 21-14 in Week 9.
Jaggar Pallay, Hudson
A rockstar both on and off the field, the Explorers senior QB led the way in their 34-7 win over Walsh Jesuit. Pallay carried the ball 25 times for 246 yards and two touchdowns to take down a very tough Warriors squad and keep Hudson undefeated. Up next for the Explorers is the toughest test of the season, the Riverside Beavers (11-1). The two teams square off Friday night in Maple Heights at 7 pm.
Levi Ellis, Elyria Catholic
The Panthers took down the Clear Fork Colts 42-14 and their senior RB led the way. On just 18 carries, Ellis racked up 210 yards and found the endzone four times. The all-time rushing leader at Elyria Catholic, Ellis is up to 4,981 career yards. Up next for the Panthers is a showdown with the top team in Division IV, the Glenville Tarblooders (11-0). Action will get underway Friday night at 7pm at North Ridgeville Ranger Stadium.
