Round 2 Cleveland
OT Trey Adams Washington
Here is where I might get some criticism but with another 12 picks in this draft, the front office could use a stash pick that is best for the organization. If you find your franchise QB, you better keep him healthy and upright from taking hits. Joe Thomas is a free agent after 2018 and I would be shocked if he signed an extension over playing for a contender late in his career or just retiring.
Instead the team can draft a tackle and let him be groomed for a year under arguably the best left tackle to play the game. Adams has first round talent but is coming off a torn ACL if he were to declare. The Browns can afford to redshirt him for one year and let him learn and develop to take over the spot next year.
Round 2 Houston
RB Damien Harris Alabama
Isaiah Crowell is having a horrible contract year behind a better offensive line than last year. He’s averaged a career low 3.8 YPC with a long run of just 27 yards on 155 attempts. In a position that takes a beating and one where the draft finds new gems year after year after year Crowell is not worth the extension for a young rebuilding team.
Instead the draft should provide a playmaker to pair with Duke Johnson on day two. With a lot of talent to pick from Harris is an explosive complete player. He is fifth in the NCAA in yards per attempt with 8.2 YPC and he has done that against mostly SEC opponents compared to the PAC-12 and American. As a three down back as well, Duke and him could become a scary duo in a backfield coming from a guy who desperately wanted Kamara last year.
