2. Third quarter woes
Once again, the Cavaliers had a not-so-great third quarter that gave their opponent life.
After leading 58-52 at halftime, the Warriors went on to outscore the Cavs 31-23 in the third frame to head into the fourth with a two-point lead.
A huge part of their success over the course of that 12 minutes was improved attention to detail on the boards. Golden State out-rebounded Cleveland, 14-6 during the frame and allowed no second-chance points.
The Warriors also got back to playing their traditional brand of fast-paced transition ball, putting up 12 fast break points compared to four for the Cavs.
“The third quarter has kind of been our Achilles heel all year,” Love said. “I’ve mentioned it this whole series. I feel like I’ve been sitting up here at the podium and answered the question the same way. Golden State is great in that third quarter. They fought back, they took the lead.
“For us, we got stagnant again. We didn’t move the ball, we didn’t cut. We weren’t getting to our usual spots that we like to get to starting the game. So I think that was mostly it.”
And for as good as Golden State was in the third, that momentum carried them over the final 12 minutes.
