It’s no secret that the Cleveland Browns are looking to obtain their franchise quarterback that they have not had since their return in 1999. Now with their second number-one overall pick in as many seasons, Cleveland is poised to take one of the best signal-callers in the 2-18 NFL Draft.
Who is that guy, you ask? Not many are in agreeance to who the best quarterback in the upcoming draft is but it appears to have been slimmed down to three players: Josh Rosen, Baker Mayfield, and Sam Darnold. While Mayfield is a senior and has no choice but to come out, Darnold and Rosen are both juniors and have the opportunity to decide whether they want to come out this year or elect to remain in school for their senior year of football.
As bowl season continues to trek on, two of the top quarterbacks have made some headlines. Just yesterday, UCLA’s Rosen made a rather cryptic statement about possibly going first overall to the Browns. Rosen did not sound the least bit enthused about entertaining the idea, saying he’d rather go to the right team at a lower spot than to the wrong team at a higher draft selection. And while those comments are already starting to turn front office executives away from the rather brash and vocal Bruins quarterback, Darnold appears to be swaying the masses his way.
Earlier today, Darnold was asked how he felt about possibly being drafted by the Browns. His response:
Sam Darnold is asked how he’d look in a Browns uniform: “Whenever I come out for the NFL, I’d be honored to play for any team.”

The USC quarterback is prepping to play the hometown Ohio State Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl this weekend to conclude his junior campaign. He threw for 3,787 yards and 26 touchdowns to twelve interceptions. While he may not be the most conventional quarterback in terms of play, Darnold has proven he’s a winner in the past and that bodes well for a possible NFL career.
