So, there has been a lot of speculation about when Cris Cyborg would return, but the bigger question is what weight class. She had wanted to fight Ronda Rousey for the longest time in the bantamweight division but that idea was scrapped for the time being after Rousey took the fall to Holly Holm late last year. So, where would Cyborg choose to fight next?
She is back and at catchweight, meeting Lina Lansberg at 140 pounds in her home country of Brazil. In one of the biggest weight cuts in recent memory, Cyborg cut nineteen pounds this week to get this fight, a fight she desperately wants and would definitely not want to miss. She is the main event after all. There are quite a few fights on this card that get people excited.
Big Country Roy Nelson makes a very big statement by defeating Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in the first of three big fights. Nelson can start on the track to the UFC Heavyweight Title Shot he is looking for. Silva will not go away quietly, especially as he is the crowd favorite. I have Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva winning by Split Decision.
In the co main event of the evening is Renan Barao taking on Philippe Nover. Honestly, Barao needs this win in a fight where he can start to rebuild himself as the monster that defeated Urijah Faber. I have Renan Barao by Unanimous Decision.
That brings me to the main event. Cyborg will keep on cruising past Lina Lansberg. At this point, can Cyborg be stopped? I think the answer will be what it has been for a while now, which is not likely. Cyborg wins by first-round Knockout.
