This is exactly what a UFC event should consist of: Familiarity, great moments and shocking victories that happen when people aren’t anticipating them.
UFC 203 has the makings to be one of the best events of the year. They have thrilling match-ups all throughout the card, including the UFC Heavyweight Champion of the World Stipe Miocic vs Alistair Overeem. Stipe is very deserving to fight in front of his hometown of Cleveland. Ohio and he looks to send a big statement to the heavyweight division, some of which are still questioning the win over Fabricio Werdum to win the title.
Very interesting to see what happens, as Stipe will look to welcome the UFC with open arms to Cleveland. His greeting gift for Alistair Overeem? Heavy fists, as Overeem will look to spoil all of the fun for the defending champion in front of his hometown faithful.
The card leading up to the main event has something for everyone.
Are you a fan of the Bantamweight Division or “The California Kid” Urijah Faber? Well, you’re in luck if you are a fan of either, as Faber takes on the always impressive Jimmie Rivera to start filing the line to face Dominick Cruz.
There’s more, as Joanne Calderwood and Jessica Andrade look to set the pace for the main card, as the two Strawweights try to stake their claim to the UFC Strawweight title shot against the very tough Joanna Jedrzejczyk. It will be fun watching those two go at it.
Fabricio Werdum and Travis Browne meet again, this time both are coming off of tough losses. Browne tasted defeat at UFC 200 to Cain Velasquez and Werdum was finished in his home country of Brazil by the new UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic.
And finally, CM Punk will lock horns with Mickey Gall in his UFC debut. Punk will try to silence the doubters, as Gall looks to progress in his young career.
Those are the main card fights. All of them look to impress and will surely build the hype up as the week progresses. Stay locked in to NEOSI on Facebook at NEO Sports Insiders and on Twitter at @NEOSportsInside, as well as right here to keep up with everything UFC 203 related.
