DETROIT– Tyler Naquin is officially heading to the 10-day disabled list with a right hip strain, the Indians announced via press release on Saturday.
Naquin is batting .264 (46-for-174) with 10 extra-base hits (three homer runs) and 23 RBI in 61 games for Cleveland this year. This is his second stint on the DL in 2018, the first being from May 12-June 14 when he suffered a left hamstring strain.
With the roster spot, the club has recalled right-handed starting pitcher Adam Plutko from Class Triple-A Columbus.
Plutko could see time on the mound as early as Saturday evening. Indians scheduled starter Mike Clevinger is battling an illness, and in the event that he is a late scratch or pulled early, Plutko could eat up some innings.
This will be Plutko’s fifth stint with the Indians. He has posted a 4-2 with one save and a 4.87 ERA in eight appearances and six starts.
