The road to Baron Cup Championship Sunday continues tonight in Brooklyn, as we’ve got 12 games down, nine to go and today is the ‘light’ day of the tourney as there’s just two games on the slate for the first time this week.
Thursday saw three more great games as in Baron Cup III the Invaders of Normandy moved on with a hard fought 4-2 victory over the Greenmen of Aurora, a game which saw Philip Kostal break a 2-2 tie late as the Invaders advance to the semi-final round.
The second game was a Baron Cup I battle between Rocky River and Midview, and the Pirates were just too much for the Middies, as they moved on with an 8-2 win, led by Teddy Steuber’s hat trick for the Pirates.
Rocky River will play Strongsville, who were winners in the third and final game on Thursday, topping the Mentor Cardinals 4-2, as the Mustangs scored two third period goals for the win.
That brings us to today, as there’s two games on the Baron Cup slate, both are semi-final games in the Baron Cup II bracket, both of which should be great matchups.
The first at 5:30pm will feature #1 seeded Amherst as they will take on Benedictine. The Comets topped Bay on Monday in the first day of the Baron Cup by a final of 6-1.
The Bengals won the finale of play Monday, as they were better than Canfield winning a 1-0 affair with the only goal of the game being scored by Matt Carson, a short-handed goal.
The late game tonight will see the other Baron Cup II semi, as #1 Orange will take on #2 Olmsted Falls in a game that should be one of the best in the tourney.
The Lions were a big winner on day one, as they topped NDCL putting up eight goals in an 8-4 win.
The Bulldogs, winners of the Baron Cup II tourney a year ago, started the defense of their title with a solid 4-1 win over the Eagles of Avon Monday.
