The Cleveland Indians followed up a three-game sweep of the Houston Astros with a 5-1 loss on the road to the Cincinnati Reds on Monday night.
Interleague play has not been kind to the Tribe early on this season, as Cleveland is 0-4 on the road against National League opponents, but there’s obviously quite a bit of baseball to be played.
Here are three takeaways from the loss.
1. Scott Feldman Stifles Tribe
Reds right hander Scott Feldman (3-4, 3.99) had one of his best starts in recent memory, striking out nine Indians over six innings, allowing one earned run on four hits, walking two.
The Tribe erupted for eight runs Sunday afternoon, but the bats didn’t have it at Great American Ballpark.
Interestingly enough, one of the only four Indians to record a hit off Feldman was starting pitcher Josh Tomlin.
Among the few positives from the offense, Michael Brantley extended his hit streak to seven games and has been as consistent as ever when it comes to getting on base.
Francisco Lindor stretched his hit streak to eight games, along with Jason Kipnis, who hit a solo shot in the fourth. It’s safe to say the top of the lineup (1 through 3) has not been a big problem of late.
