CLEVELAND, Ohio- The Cleveland Indians have had a very eventful day today before first pitch against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, with the announcement of the second AL All-Star ballot returns providing reason to be excited. This next tidbit of news is a little bittersweet involving two key members of the team.
Danny Salazar, who has had a very rough start to the 2017 season, is being put on the 10-day Disabled List with a shoulder injury. Salazar had recently moved to the bullpen following his tough beginning of the season as a starter this season and even embraced the trip to the ‘pen, trotting out to “Wild Thing” and shaving his iconic blonde streak of hair. Salazar was poised to get a spot start in Colorado but was pulled from that start. It will be key to get Salazar back on track in order to make another lengthy run to the World Series.
The good news for Tribe fans is that right fielder Lonnie Chisenhall will be reactivated by the team following his trip to the DL with a concussion. Chisenhall is off to a very good start this season, batting .261 and bringing in 22 runs in 33 games played this year. With Chisenhall returning, it will be interesting to see how the Tribe handles working him back in. A surprise in the outfield has been Austin Jackson, who has batted .268 in 21 games for the Tribe. With Brantley, Zimmer and Jackson all performing well, Lonnie should feel no pressure to rush back into the flow of the game.
The Tribe play the Rockies tonight, with first pitch at 8:40pm ET.
