The Cleveland Indians look to extend their six-game win-streak on Friday night, as they kick off a three-game weekend series on the road against the Detroit Tigers.
The Tribe wrapped up their home games in the month of June by going 11-0 at Progressive Field, the best month at home in the history of the franchise.
The Indians have made mincemeat of the Tigers up to this point in the season, winning all six contests, including a three-game sweep the last time the Tribe was in Detroit back in April.
The Tigers are on a streak of their own, winning four straight heading into Friday night.
Cleveland holds a three-game lead over the Kansas City Royals for first place in the American League Central and the Tigers are right behind KC, four games back.
The Indians’ pitching staff has been one of the best in baseball, particularly in the month of June. Indians pitchers own a team ERA of 2.61 this month, the best in MLB.
The Tribe sends Danny Salazar (8-3, 2.23) to the mound in the series opener. The right-hander is putting together a Cy Young-worthy season. He owns the second-best ERA in the AL, is sixth in strikeouts (96), tied for fifth in wins, and leads the AL in strikeouts per nine innings (10.71).
Right-hander Jordan Zimmerman (9-3, 3.24) takes the mound for Detroit on Friday night. After starting the season 5-0 with a 0.55 ERA in the month of April, Zimmerman has come back to earth over the last two months, going 4-3, allowing just under five runs per nine innings.
Carlos Carrasco takes on Anibal Sanchez on Saturday and Josh Tomlin goes up against Justin Verlander in the series finale on Sunday.
