According to Browns wide receiver Travis Benjamin’s agent, Ronald Butler, the two sides are close to reaching a long-term deal.
I’m optimistic that something will get done in the near future,” Butler said, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “We’ve been in contact with the organization here in the last couple of weeks and we’re still trying to figure out how we can get this thing done where both sides agree to a fair offer. But Cleveland has made strides in terms of getting him back in a Browns uniform.”
“Travis knows what his value is,” Butler said. “It’s just a matter of coming up with something both sides are comfortable with.”
Benjamin had a great 2015 season, with career-highs in receptions (68), receiving yards (966), and touchdowns (5).
According to Butler, new Head Coach Hue Jackson is a fan of Benjamin.
“Hue loves Travis,” said Butler. “We actually spoke about it, Hue and I. He’s a great guy. He’s great at what he does as far as coaching and offensively what he brings to the table and I think he’s excited about the possibility of having Travis come back there and jump into that offense and help them win ballgames.”
The Browns are somewhat thin at wide receiver, but the potential duo of Benjamin in the slot and Josh Gordon could be a great combination for whoever will be quarterback in 2016.
