If you’ve ever seen a football matchup between Archbishop Hoban and St. Vincent St. Mary, you know how deep the rivalry between the two schools run.
Director Anthony Fanelli has been working on a documentary about the long standing rivalry, known as the ‘Akron Holy War,’ and has raised over $35,000 in a Kickstarter campaign in order to make the movie.
Here’s the description of the film:
Nestled in the comfy confines of Akron, Ohio sits two parochial football powerhouses, Archbishop Hoban High School and St. Vincent St. Mary (STVM) High School. Each year, these schools breed Division 1 talent en route to bringing home Ohio state football championships. Each year, these two foes face off in what is referred to statewide as “The Akron Holy War.” This film will showcase how one week of prep for 48 minutes of a football game will affect these players for the rest of their lives, the toll the families that root for them on and off of the field have to endure and why the Akron Holy War is one of the nation’s greatest rivalries.
Earlier today Fanelli released a 1:45 trailer that looks like it’s going to be a must-see!
