PARMA, OHIO – The host of the annual Bruce Anderson Normandy Holiday Hockey Tournament started off their tourney in a big way Friday afternoon, as the Normandy Invaders made quick work of the Bay Rockets 10-0 in two periods of play.
Normandy outshot the overmatched Rockets 43-2 in the 30 minutes of action, and will move on for a 4:55pm game Saturday against Twinsburg, who lost to Orange 9-0 on Friday.
The Invaders got a chance to play most of their second and third lines in the second period as they already led 9-0 after one, and that can only help them as they continue to move forward for the remainder of the season.
As for Bay, they are a very young team that is just looking to make strides in terms of numbers (14 players( and putting a team on the ice. They will play Saturday against NDCL in a game that starts at 8:15pm.
The Invaders in the win got a hat trick from junior forward Mic Franz, and freshman forward Danny Bartik scored twice in the win as well.
Junior forward Jason Pierzchala scored the games first goal for Normandy and had an assist as well. Freshman forward Tyler Beck scored and also had an assist.
The Invaders, finishing second in the Blue North to Avon Lake last season, went 24-7-0 and will look to stay competitive this year, hoping to continue their trend of playing well in their home tourney.
It started well on Friday, and they will look to keep up the momentum Saturday against Twinsburg.
