Here are some of the exciting highlights that occurred in Northeast Ohio High School Football during week one.
Region I
In OHSAA Region One, John Salaman helped lead Lorain to a 35-7 victory over Brush.
Salaman had 222 yards on 18 carries for Lorain. In addition, Salaman had 4 touchdowns.
Quarterback Scotty Fox led Mentor to a victory over Jackson, 26-21. Fox threw for 275 yards and had two touchdown passes.
Region 5
In Region 5, Hudson defeated Highland as Ian Ludewig gained 170 yards on the ground and had 5 rushing touchdowns. Ludewig also had a 96 yard Kickoff return for a touchdown.
Region 9
Alliance defeated Lake 12-7.
Quarterback Brendan Zurbrugg ran for 99 yards and threw for 152 more as he led Alliance to victory.
Gilmour defeated Valley Forge 35-6. Senior quarterback Jake Kavcic was 11-14 for 207 yards and 4 touchdowns. Kavcic had a 129.5 QB Rating for the game.
Kavcic also carried the ball 11 times and gained 74 yards. He had one rushing touchdown as well.
Also in Region 9, Hawken defeated Rhodes 49-8. Running back Jordan Johnson led Hawken with 155 yards on 13 carries, while Tristan Ruffin-Williams had 94 yards on 10 carries.
Luke Mangini, son of former Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini, added 91 yards on five carries for Hawken and Sophomore quarterback Donovan Moorehead was 5-8 for 112 yards and one touchdown through the air.
Region 10
Norton was led by Lucas Dobbins in their 35-6 victory over Northwest. Dobbins had 176 yards and a touchdown in Norton’s victory.
Rocky River defeated Harvey 55-42. Rocky River was led by quarterback Julian Patti who threw for 421 yards and 5 touchdowns in the victory. In addition Nick Disalvo rushed for 186 yards and 3 touchdowns in leading Rocky River to victory.
Region 13
Senior Preston Hopperton rushed for 228 yards on 29 carries as he led Streetsboro to a 36-22 victory over CVCA.
