Three Takeaways From Bellator 180

The judging and overall scoring system in New York Appears to be heavily flawed

We saw some very funky decisions the first time MMA came to MSG with UFC 205 in 2016.  We saw some strange decisions and scoring when UFC came back to Buffalo for UFC 210, and we saw it again tonight.

For so many years MMA fans begged and pleased for the sport to sanctioned in New York so they could return to such a great sports state packed with fans.  While the fans continue to support, and so do the fighters who ask to be on the New York cards, we saw tonight that the refs and judges need some serious training to make up for the long layoff.

Phil Davis walked through Ryan Bader in a very boring fight, but never the less, did more then enough to keep his title only to be robbed of it with some very poor judging.  It was even a split decision which goes to show that at least one judge had it right. But the lopsided scores from the others made no sense and made you wonder what exactly they were watching?

It was a title match that should have belonged on the Pay Per View.  Now, Bader is a champion in Bellator.  Here is a guy who never fought in a single UFC title bout because he kept losing title eliminators.  He walks right into Bellator, gets a title shot, gets beat, but still walks away with the gold.  Again, not a good look for Bellator.
