2. Trade with Denver Nuggets for Kenneth Faried- So this would be another intriguing move in the Cavs offseason and here’s why it would work. First off, Faried is a monster in terms of energy and though his numbers aren’t jaw-dropping, he is a poor man’s, Tristan Thompson. don’t believe me, check the stats below from their careers so far.
Faried 11.9 points per game Thompson 8.1 points per game
Faried 8.5 rebounds per game Thompson 9.2 rebounds per game
The stats above show why it isn’t too far-fetched to see the Cavs part with a ridiculously-sized contract in Thompson for a much more manageable contract in Faried. The only reason this deal would turn some fans off is due to the fact that Thompson is a fan favorite and that he already has made his name here in Cleveland. But in reality, this trade makes way too much sense. The Nuggets get a real explosive forward to roll with and can pair with their young guards and the Cavs get a cheaper forward with the same dynamic while in the search for a title and a chance to be players in free agency next offseason. Change can be a good thing and with the Cavs in a weird spot following this season, it’s good to have options. Having money to spend expands what kind of options you can have.
In fact, this deal could be an interesting one for another reason. if the Cavs are trying to ship the contract of Shump as well, maybe acquiring Gary Harris or Emmanuel Mudiay isn’t out of the question. Of course, then picks start being brought up in discussions. it’s a worth a shot if this is the desired route.
