3.) Less Three-Point Attempts, More Shooting from Inside the Arc
Last season the Cleveland Cavaliers averaged the second highest 3-point field goal attempts per game. The Cavaliers shot around 33.89 3PT attempts per game according to Basketball-Reference.
The Cavs only trailed the Houston Rockets, the Rockets averaged 40.32 3PT attempts per game.
The Cavs lived and died from behind the arc and I believe that is one of the reasons why they lost in the 2017 NBA Finals to the Golden State Warriors.
It seemed that if the Cavs were trailing during the Finals that they would throw up as many shots as possible from behind the arc, which is a game you cannot play with the now defending NBA Champions.
In Cleveland’s opener in 2016 against the New York Knicks, the Cavs shot 13-35 from beyond the arc and went 45-94 on field goals. The Cavs won that game 117-88.
Last night the Cavs defeated the Boston Celtics 102-99. Cleveland shot 5-22 for 3 and they were 38-83 on field goals.
The Cavs took 13 less 3 point attempts in the opener which is a welcoming sign for fans that have wanted to see the team drive in more often.
After a few games Cavalier fans can get more of a feel to see which direction the team is going in but as of right now it seems that they will be taking less 3 point attempts.
