3. Green Finding A Groove- The first playoff game as a Cavalier did not go as planned for Jeff Green. Green had absolutely zero offensive rhythm and it reflected in his 0-for-7 shooting performance Sunday. Green, not known for his three-point shooting by any stretch, elected to shoot half of his shots from long range. After shooting just thirty-one percent from behind the arc in the regular season, one would think taking it to the paint wouldn’t be the worst idea for Green.
“The message to Jeff is to be aggressive,” Cavaliers head coach Ty Lue told reporters on Monday. “We need him on the floor for another ball handler when they’re pressuring our guards, attacking the basket, and don’t just settle, just be aggressive. If you’re going to make a mistake, make an aggressive mistake. He understands that. And I thought defensively he was pretty good, but offensively I think he just needs to be more aggressive with the basketball.”
Green seems to think otherwise.
“If they’re going to leave me open, I’m going to continue to shoot it,” Green said. “They’re going to fall and then they’ll have to adjust. I’m not going to adjust to them, they’re going to have to adjust to how I’m going to play.”
Of course, Indiana has no reason to adjust to Green after his abysmal day from the field. If he continues to approach the game the same way, he’ll force Cleveland to adjust to their own teammate’s flaw.
