1. The Fifth Inning Momentum Shift
So how exactly did the Tribe overcome their largest deficit in a win since 2012?
The fifth inning is a good place to start.
Lonnie Chisenhall got things going with an RBI single scoring Jose Ramirez. Roberto Perez walked with the bases loaded to score Carlos Santana, and was followed up by Bradley Zimmer in the next at-bat with an RBI fielder’s choice.
Francisco Lindor knocked in the final run of the inning on an RBI single to center field.
When all was said and done, the Tribe made it all the way through the batting order, and turned their seven-run deficit into a two-run deficit.
That offensive power continued into the sixth inning. Santana recorded an RBI-single to right field, while Chisenhall recorded a two-run RBI single two batters later to give the Indians their first lead of the night, 10-9. Lindor and Jason Kipnis rounded out the inning with two more RBIs for the Tribe.
In a two-inning span, the Indians turned a 9-3 deficit into a 12-9 advantage.
For the first time since August of 2016, all nine starters recorded a hit, with eight of the nine starters recording multi-hit games.
