It’s been busy on the Cleveland sports scene:
Ohio State
The Ohio State men’s basketball team is and should be an embarrassment to the entire state of Ohio. Earlier this season, the Bucks were a top 25 team and things seemed to be trending upward. This just proves that trends aren’t exactly trustworthy, as the Scarlet and Gray are now 11-16 overall with a 3-13 record within the Big Ten and are in the midst of an eight game losing streak.
The saving grace for Ohio State fans is that both the men’s and women’s hockey teams are so hot that they’re in danger of melting the ice! The men’s hockey team just got a huge win over the hated Team Up North at Browns Stadium in front of over 40,000 people, and the women’s team is currently ranked number one in the nation with a 27-3-2 record!
Cleveland Guardians
We are only five days until our Guardians open up the 2023 preseason against the Reds. This team has a lot of pressure on their shoulders after making the postseason and winning their first playoff series last season but with our fearless leader Terry Francona, I know that this team will be ready to not only meet the high expectations but exceed them! To say I am excited for this upcoming Guardians season would be a huge understatement! Let’s go Guards!!
Cleveland Browns
The biggest news of the off-season is of course Joe Thomas’s selection as a first ballot hall of famer, and he is so deserving of that honor! The only thing that could have kept him out of the HOF would be the team’s record during his 11 year career here in Cleveland and if they kept him out because of that reason, it would be such a bad look from not only the Hall of Fame itself, but every writer that votes as well since all of the losing seasons could be blamed on a lot of things, but Joe Thomas definitely isn’t one of those reasons. Congrats Joe! It was a pleasure to watch you play for our team!
Cleveland Cavs
Going into this past weekend’s All-Star break, the Wine and Gold are sitting in second place in the Central Division with only 4.5 games separating them from the first place Milwaukee Bucks, and they hold the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference playoff race with a 38-23 record, only two games away from the 76ers who hold the third seed. Home court advantage would be huge for our Cleveland Cavaliers, especially since they currently have a 25-6 record at home, making it a very tough place to play for any visiting team. Watching this team is so fun on a nightly basis and the fun will only get better as we march towards to the postseason!
Until next time, stay sharp Northeast Ohio!
