If you have been a fan of Cleveland sports for all of your life, or even part of your life, then you are well aware how hard it is to remain positive about our teams at times. Most Cleveland fans have had a love/hate relationship with at least one of our teams, if not all of them.
With Cleveland teams winning only one championship (Thank you Cavs!) in most of our lifetime, it is very hard at times to stay positive, and we fans can become quite negative about the teams we love. So, this brings up the question, is it still okay to be negative about our teams?
When we fans speak or tweet negative things about our teams, we sometimes get backlash from a player or two, and even as of late, backlash came from a certain Cavs broadcaster. That broadcaster attacked a Cleveland sports radio host on Twitter after that host went on a rant regarding the Cavs woes in this year’s postseason so far.
I am not a fan of people booing the home team at a game, but I do think the fans have earned the right to do so. But like most things in life, I believe just because you have the right to do something, doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do.
Is it wrong to be negative of the Cavs during the playoffs? No! They have not played (or coached) well enough to earn total positivity.
Is it wrong to be negative about our Guardians? No! Right now, they can’t buy enough runs to win games and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.
Is it wrong to be negative about our Browns? Sorry, that is a trick question. Once there are positive things about the Browns, then maybe we can stop being negative, but history isn’t on our side on this one.
The moral of this story is that just because we fans are negative; doesn’t mean we aren’t still fans. In fact, if we weren’t fans, we wouldn’t care enough to even be negative! To the players, coaches and broadcasters who do not like the negativity, please know that it’s not personal. Like you, we only want the best for our teams.
