The Long Ball Helps the Indians and Bauer Top Cubs 4-1; Three Takeaways From the Win

2. Guyer Comes Through Staring the Long Ball Trend

Brandon Guyer hit his first homer since August 1st in the 5th to tie the game at one, and then the following inning two more long balls but the Tribe ahead for good, as Francisco Lindor and Edwin Encarnacion each went deep to build a 3-1 Indians lead.

Guyer came into Wednesday’s game with just a .125 average, but his job is to do damage against lefties, and he did that, coming through big against Jon Lester who was having his way with the Indians through the first 4.2 innings.

Terry Francona said again how important Guyer is against lefties, and while he’s still struggling to get the average up, it was a big hit Wednesday to get the team on the board and back to even at one apiece.
