It was a beautiful afternoon in Cleveland as the Tribe hosted the Cardinals for game two of a short series. The Indians were looking to bounce back after losing game one last night 4-2.
Zach Plesac was making the 14th start of the season. He gave up a run in the 1st inning off a single from Yadier Molina to score Dylan Carlson.
In the 2nd inning, Franmil Reyes jumped into the fun smoking a ball 446 ft out of left field. That blast knotted the game at 1-1.
Dylan Carlson answered Reyes and went yard off of Plesac in the 3rd. That left the score at 2-1 and it was reminiscent of last night with the teams trading the lead, but not for long. Something must’ve been in the Gatorade because the Indians were teeing off of Cardinal’s starter Kwang Hyun Kim. Cesar Hernandez, Jose Ramirez and Reyes all homered in the bottom of the 3rd inning.
For Cleveland, who have struggled offensively, it was great to see the baseballs leaving the park.
Austin Hedges singled in the 4th inning to score Yu Chang. Hedges then scored on a sacrifice fly by Hernandez bringing the score to 7-2.
Plesac went five innings giving up two runs on seven hits. He had one walk and fanned four batters. The right-hander has been solid since returning from the IL on July 8. Plesac has not posted a losing decision in his last 10 starts.
The bullpen did not allow the Cardinals to score another run. It was a group effort that consisted of Blake Parker, Nick Sandlin, Emmanuel Clase and James Karinchak.
The Indians will have a day off tomorrow as they travel to Chicago. They will face the White Sox in a three-game series. Game one is Friday at 8:10 pm EST.
