Cleveland Oh- Saturday night at 6pm EST, starts a new era for the Cavs. It is the beginning of an era that will shape the next decade and beyond. It is the beginning of the Evan Mobley experience. With all due respect to Donavan Mitchell who is right now the Cavs best player, Mobley is by far the Cavs most important player for the long term.
“If you hit ‘em early, that’s just gonna deter them from even attempting a rebound.”

Evan Mobley ended his sophomore campaign with averages of 16ppg, 9 rebounds and 2.8 assist, shooting 55% from the floor. Solid regular season numbers for the former #3 pick. The big man showed improvement as the season went on, but the real season is starting, and Cavs fans should be more than excited.
“Defense wins championships” is an age-old quote that we all have heard and adapted. And defense is what Mobley is already extremely good at. The Cavs have the best defensive rating in the league. They have relied on their defense throughout the season even when the offense slows down. This all is a recipe for the playoffs. In the playoffs, when teams have a chance to game plan for you, and take away what you do well, the defense is what really turns key. Which is why Cavs fans should watch this series as the beginning of something special.
It's not remarkable, but this was my favorite Evan Mobley defensive play this season. Great defenders cause offensive players to speed up. Dejounte Murray short-armed this like a receiver cutting across the middle because Mobley took a step in his direction. pic.twitter.com/kUB0MhmN1z

In all likelihood, Mobley won’t win DMVP this season, but should be a finalist and has garnered some first-place votes. The fact that in just his second year, he will finish in the top 3 and will be on the All-Defensive team speaks volumes of how good he is on that side of the ball. The numbers also back up the eye test. In every defensive metric, Mobley can be found somewhere in the top 10. He is 21 years old and has been in the NBA for two years. He’s just not supposed to be this good defensively this quickly.
If Mobley is what the numbers and eye test say he is, then the Cavs should be fine. As Mobley and the rest of the young core get better, the Cavs will grow and become contenders. With the NBA world starting to watch, the young Cavs are knocking on the door. And Mobley is the leader of the knocking. We want him to kick the door down and bring all the reinforcements. Because this…. is the Evan Mobley Experience!!
