Geneva- LeMelo Ball is returning to high school, this time in Ohio. As most people know the Ball family does things the unconventional way, this move should surprise you though. LeMelo is the youngest brother of Los Angeles Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball. Last year LeMelo withdrew from Chino Hills HS in California to be home schooled, that eventually led to him signing a professional contract in Lithuania. While in Lithuania he played with his brother LiAngelo, who had left UCLA after only a few months. The Ball brothers father Lavar then started the Junior Basketball Association, the JBA had the premise of offering HS players an alternative to college. The JBA allowed players to earn money, while also touring throughout both the US and Europe.
Now Tuesday afternoon it was announced that after sitting down with his family, LeMelo has decided to return to high school for his senior year. LeMelo will attend Spire Institute in Geneva,Ohio, and will be playing for their basketball program. Due to Spire not being a traditional high school, but rather a prep school LeMelo will be able to compete against other prep schools. Those anticipating his debut won’t have to long, his debut is expected on November 13 as Spire takes on national powerhouse La Lumiere in Indiana.
Prior to leaving Chino Hills Ball had been considered one of the top high school players in the nation, now without his college eligibility this will be a good chance for LeMelo to compete against players his age as he ultimately prepares for the 2020 NBA Draft. Scouts and fans alike will attract to gyms to watch LeMelo as his highlights have fluttered throughout the internet the past few seasons.
