The First day of The Open Championship was something out of a picture book.
The wind was light, the grass was lush, and the sun was shinning…nothing like what the Scottish links Royal Troon course is really made for. But with that said, the second and third days of the tournament were just as expected; colder, windy, and wet.
Phil Mickelson and Henrik Stenson were in the final pairing for the final two days of the tournament, and provided the galleries with plenty of drama for the final round.
Stenson would finish 20 under par and Mickelson finished three strokes behind at 17 under. The rest of the field paled in comparison. Third place went to J. B. Holmes at 6 under.
Familiar faces such as Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia finished 4 under, and Dustion Johnson finished 2 under for the tournament.
The final pairing of Mickelson and Stenson made for a great finish to a major championship. Stenson and Mickelson pushed each other to be great and the two of them sure did play well enough to separate themselves from the rest of the field.
Next weekend, we have the RBC Canadian Open at Glenn Abbey GC in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. This tournament will most likely be without some marquee names seeing as The Open Championship was this weekend.
Most players I’m assuming will take a tiny vacation before the PGA Championship.
