BROOKLYN, Ohio- The St. Edward Eagles prepared for their second-round matchup against the Benedictine Bengals, with the winner moving on to play the winner of Olmsted Falls/Bay.
The Eagles started off strong in the opening frame of play, as they struck for four goals. Curtis Szelesta opened up the scoring for St. Edward within the first minute to make it 1-0. Danny McGuire was next to find the back of the net for the Eagles, as he scored at the 6:14 mark of the frame. Stephen O’Sullivan wasn’t too far behind McGuire, scoring at the 6:56 mark of the frame. Nathan Schuette finished off what was a very controlling frame for the Eagles with a goal at the 8:16 mark. The Eagles would also open up with 1:09 left on their power play from an interference penalty on Nick Moner.
The Eagles would tally four more markers in the middle stanza, as Hunter Mullen (1:38), MJ Manimbo (2:11), Adam Sabitsch (5:44) and Ryan Rockwell (8:10) would all send the puck between the pipes and past Benedictine’s goaltender Tristan Cotter. The two teams would head into the break with St. Edward leading Benedictine 8-0.
St. Edward would score two more goals off of shots by Szelesta and Mullen, as they would reach ten goals within the first five minutes of the third. Per OHSAA rules, the game was ended with the Eagles claiming a 10-0 win.
St. Edward awaits the winner of Olmsted Falls/Bay.
