“The conditions are tough out there.” We’ve heard this phrase from quite a few players, especially in the first two rounds.
And for the below average golf fan who has only, you night be thinking; “It’s beautiful there.” Well, yes it is, but it is even windier in Augusta than it is beautiful this week. The course is already demanding without the weather coming into factor, the greens are so fast that the wind actually rolled the ball of Paul Casey of the green and into the water. Needless to say he was not happy.
The story however, is that of Jordan Spieth. He has held the lead throughout the first 3 rounds. With that being said, he would have had a larger lead had he not made a mess of #16 in the 3rd round. He could be the first person since Tiger Woods in 2001 & 2002 to win back to back Masters titles. And since he indeed made a triple bogey on #16, it is now wide open for anyone to come up in the final round and steal the show. Familiar faces such as Jason Day and Dustin Johnson are still within reach of the lead and could make a fantastic run at the end with Jason Day remaining near the top of the leader board and Johnson playing like he has a chip on his shoulder.
The conditions, I thought, would have favored the veterans like Phil Mickelson who has won the Masters 3 times already. He didn’t even make the cut. But savvy old timer Bernhard Langer would say; “Hey I’m still here.” To which I would replay “Yes you are, but no one else is allowed to use an anchored putter.”
But the conditions are favoring the patient, and the players who are not afraid of the breeze. “When it’s breezy, swing easy.” This could not be anymore true for this edition of the Masters.
So, when it all comes down to it, I do not see Spieth giving up the lead. When the pressure is on, I do think that Spieth will rise to the occasion. And I would not be surprised if we see a playoff with Spieth and one of the other leaders.
If Spieth does not win this tournament, it will be surprising to me. And if Spieth does win, it will be another notch on the belt in Spieth’s quest to become one of the best golfers of all time, and I personally am willing to wait and watch him make history, if he has the moxie for it.

Quadruple bogey!?!?!?!? No one could’ve seen that coming!
