Columbia, OH- It is week 5 which is the halfway point of the 2017 High School football season. Our game of the week had the Buckeye Bucks traveling to Columbia to take on the Raiders.
The action starter early as Columbia took the opening kick and drive the ball 67 yds in which junior RB Brandon Coleman fumbled the ball into the end zone but luckily it was recovered by FB Ben Alden. Columbia jumped out to a 7-0 lead. The Bucks immediately responded with an 86 yd kick off return for a touchdown from senior WR Justin Canedy and the score was tied 7-7 with 8:17 left in the first. The Bucks defense forced and interception by junior QB Jared Bycznski and two plays later Canedy scored on a 68 yd TD Run and the Bucks took a 14-7 lead with 5:32 left in the opening quarter. Columbia would fumble the corresponding kickoff, giving the bucks the ball in Raider territory. The bucks were able to capitalize on the turnover thanks to 5 yd TD from senior QB Adam Fauver, the Bucks led 21-7 with 2:51 left in the first quarter. Columbia was able to get back into the game with two great runs from Coleman , one for 20 yds and a 34 yd run for a TD . The Raiders cut the lead to 21-14 to end the 1st quarter.
The Bucks opened 2nd quarter with a 65 yd scoring drive punctuated with 5 yd TD Run from junior RB Dominic Monaco, Bucks led 28-14 with 10:55 left in the half. The Raiders were able to get a late TD from Coleman, his second of the half, but a missed extra point from Columbia allowed Buckeye to take a 28-20 at the half .
Bucks opened the 2nd half with the ball but two back to back turnovers stifled any potential for a scoring opportunity. The Bucks defense was able to corral Raider running back Brandon Coleman, and limited the Raiders offense to zero points in the second half. Bucks QB Adam Fauver added a TD run in the 3rd and early in the 4th quarter. Buckeye RB Austin Bir added a 62 yd Td Run late in the 4th quarter to seal the 49-20 victory.
Columbia falls to 3-2 on the year and were paced by Brandon Coleman who had 2 TDs.
The Bucks improve to 5-0 and they were led by Fauver with 3 rushing TDs and earned player of the game honors
