Cleveland Oh. – Every once in a while, there’s a game where you just get out played and there’s nothing you can do about it. Tonight was one of those nights for the Charge as they fell to the Blue Coats 135-101. Honestly, it wasn’t that close. The loudest cheer was when Scotty Hopson dunked to win free donuts for the fans. On a night with no real good things to say, Coach Mike Gerrity spoke after the game about the bench unit fighting and not letting things become worse. That was the highlight.
It got away in the second quarter. The Blue Coats went on a 35-9 run to start the quarter and… never recovered. The good thing is, the Charge split the matchup with the defending champion Blue Coats. They won on Friday 101-95 as they held the Blue Coats to 38% shooting. Tonight though, the Blue Coats shot 56% from the field, while making 20 threes. The Charge made 12 threes but also had 23 turnovers. While there isn’t much to say good, there were some nuggets. Pete Nance scored 22 points while finishing two alley oops from newcomer Jon Elmore in his first game action. Emoni Bates had some moments where he was able to get to the rim which is something he is working on. Other than that, it wasn’t a great night for the good guys.
The Charge will look to get back to their winning ways on Wednesday as they travel to Indiana to face the Mad Ants. It will be a test as the Mad Ants are one of the better teams in the G League, but the Charge were able to beat them the last time they played. Hopefully tonight is a one off and they can return to their winning ways!
