Six Things You Shouldn’t Be Shocked To See In First Round Of 2018 NFL Draft

NFL Draft

5.) Some Great Talent Will Fall Because of Position

This draft has a lot of the top talent at positions that are not generally regarded as hot commodities. Combine that with five QBs that can go high in the first round as compared to the traditional two or three and more talent will slide. On offense the strength is at running back and interior offensive line while the weakness is at wide receiver and offensive tackle early on. I already touched on the running backs falling so I am gonna focus on the interior line. I see five players, Nelson, Hernandez, Wynn, Daniels, and Price that could potentially go in the first. The injury to Price may drop him out of the running but still that is a lot of talent inside. Nelson is the number two player on my board but because he is a guard instead of a tackle moves him from a top-four lock to probably going somewhere between 6-11. Other teams getting a guard at the end of the first because of that position could be getting a top 15 pick if they played tackle. Likewise on defense some of the top talent may fall. Vita Vea is almost 350 pounds so he may slide to a team that plays as a 3-4 NT instead of in a 4-3. The top LBs aren’t edge guys but more weak side or inside LBs such as Roquan Smith, Rahsaan Evans, and Leighton Vander Esch that could potentially affect their value. Then the safety position could be the one taking the big hit. Derwin James, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Justin Reid, Jessie Bates, and Ronnie Harrison can all be first-round talents but I would expect only two of them to go first round and maybe only one in the top ten just because of the position.
