BROOKLYN, OHIO – Thanks in part to a 4-1 victory over Kenston, the Shaker Heights Red Raiders will now face the winner of the Rocky River vs Strongsville clash later tonight. Shaker, the number one seed in Baron Cup One, showed why they are ranked so high tonight with another dominant effort. No one was as surprised that this game was physical, as a rivalry between these two teams
The game started out very close, as both teams got back on defense and didn’t allow any clean shots. In fact, Shaker Heights first goal by Peter Levin came in a crowd. He found a slight enough crack to get it in however, and put the Red Raiders up.
The goal by Levin came with only 3:49 left on the clock in the opening period, and caused the scoring seal to break. Within the next 90 seconds Shaker would score twice more. The first by Britt Anderson off of a ferocious slap shot, and the third and final goal of the wild stretch by Jeff Hubbard.
The second period was a close affair as both teams had excellent penalty kills and refused to crack under the man disadvantage. Kenston would not give up however and Nick Kendra broke away late and scored with 13 seconds left to go in the period to cut the lead to 3-1 heading into the final frame. The shot by Kendra went top shelf perfectly.
With 3:30 left to play in the game, Kenston got a power play chance after roughing was called on Britt Anderson of Shaker but could not cash in as the Red Raiders clung to a 3-1 lead with less than one minute to play. Shaker would cash in on an empty netter before it was over.
