The Shaker Girls Track and field team competed at the OHSAA Regional Championships on May 24 and May 26 at Austintown Fitch High School.
With a trip to the OHSAA State Championships on the line, the Shaker Girls Track and Field Team won 3 individual OHSAA Regional Titles, qualified for the OHSAA State Championships in two additional events, and finished as OHSAA Regional Runners Up as a team.
Winning an individual OHSAA Regional Title for the Shaker Girls Track and Field team was the 4x200m relay team (Claire Dunn, Jennifer Rawls, Mariah Revels, Meilani Walker). In addition, Claire Dunn won Regional Titles in the 200m and the 400m.
Also qualifying for the OHSAA State Championships was Kyla Taress in the pole vault. The 4x400m relay team (Claire Dunn, Jennifer Rawls, Mariah Revels, Kyla Taress) also qualified for the OHSAA State Championships.
In post event comments Claire Dunn, who qualified for the OHSAA State Championships in four events, talked about the teams performance.
“We pr’d in everything today,” said Dunn. “We pr’d in the 4×2, and the 4×4. I just think we did an amazing job today.”
Added Kyla Taress, “The team chemistry is all that matters to us.”
Shaker will participate in the OHSAA Track and Field State Championships on June 2 and June 3 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of Ohio State University.
