4.) Stare Downs/Reads
Another worry I have for Deshaun at the next level is how well can he read defenses and not stare down receivers. Go watch tape of Watson and watch his helmet. It likely doesn’t move much. Clemson runs a system where he usually only reads one half of the field and maybe must read what one or two defenders are doing. By doing that he is locking in on one side of the field and usually on one receiver.
Stare downs will get you killed in the NFL. He doesn’t make the typical progressions through all the receivers like you would expect out of most QBs and this may once again be another reason for the interceptions by locking in on a guy instead of checking down progressions. He needs to prove that he can go through all his progressions and scan the entire field instead of just half because if teams learn that, they can lean one way and force him into bad throws or late throws from not working progressions fast enough.
