3.) 30 INTs/Accuracy
The biggest red flag for me is the 30 INTs over the last two seasons from him. That’s one per game of just giving away the ball to the other team and that does not include an additional seven fumbles. There could be a lot of reasons for it but to not take away from my next point his accuracy while better than a lot of the NCAA QBs is still not NFL elite. Watching Deshaun throw the football he doesn’t consistently hit his receivers between the numbers. He tends to throw a little high more than anything which is especially dangerous in the NFL.
That leaves room for the WRs to take big hits as well as leave the ball up in the air for deflections or safeties over top. There were also a lot of times you would see the ball come up short or just not where it needs to be causing a receiver to break stride or fall down to get it and turn a fifteen yard pass into five yards. He must do a better job of putting it on the spot and was especially weak on the deep ball.
He is not a great deep ball thrower and that is bread and butter in the NFL. Corners are so athletic and strong that you will not make a living dinking and dunking all over the field. You need to put that deep throw on the money to erupt for big plays when the few breaks in coverage occur. Without that big boy throw, Watson doesn’t have anything that can separate him because he doesn’t have the strongest arm compared to a lot of these other top guys.
