BROOKLYN, Ohio- The Rocky River Pirates and Elyria Catholic Panthers prepared for battle inside the John M. Coyne Recreation Center, as the winner would prepare for the Padua Franciscan Bruins.
The Pirates would come out with a barrage of scores, as Rocky River would find the back of the net six times. Nolan Weaver would open the scoring at the 6:01 mark and Teddy Steuber would follow that up twenty-three seconds later for another score. Bill Kelly (7:54 mark) and Tommy Kelly (8:56 mark) would both find the goal in the opening frame to make it 4-0. Luke Witzigrueter and Teddy Steuber would continue the flurry with a goal from each. Rocky River would head into the break up 6-0.
Sumner Mead would open up the second period scoring at the 3:59 mark and Ian Herrmann wouldn’t be too far behind with a breakaway goal to make it 8-0. Nolan Weaver and Keller Fisher would both score late in the middle stanza to make it 10-0. Per the OHSAA rules, the game would be ended after the second period due to the ten-goal lead after two frames.
Rocky River will take on Padua Franciscan on February 19 at 5:oopm.
