For new Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III, he’s getting a first hand look at the teams’ practice of just how the Browns look very early into his tenure as the teams’ new starting quarterback.
While there’s not much to go by at this point, the quarterback said on Thursday that despite what a lot of the experts think, he feels there’s plenty of talent on this Cleveland roster, and they can make noise in the AFC in 2016.
“There’s a lot of talent out there. That’s for sure. It’s really good,” Griffin said in Berea Thursday.
“I feel like the offensive line has done a really good job, getting to the ball, getting in and out the huddle, getting the calls. It was really fun to see those big boys run around and then see our defense fly around and get to the ball. The effort and motivation is definitely there.”
Griffin doesn’t have to worry about looking over his shoulder at a quarterback taken with the second overall pick in next week’s NFL Draft, as the team moved their second pick to Philadelphia on Wednesday.
The former Redskins QB said he wasn’t focused on what was on the Browns draft board anyway, but now it’s clear he’s the teams number one guy when it comes to leading the offense in 2016.
“I don’t really worry about it,” Griffin said.
“You just focus on what is at hand each and every day, conquering each day and getting better. Learn the language that we are speaking on offense and be able to go out there and execute it.”
It was a busy couple of days for the free agent pickup, as he’s been spending plenty of time learning the club’s new offense, and by the time camp rolls around for real, he and the offense need to make sure they are on the same page.
“They threw the kitchen sink at us with everything we are doing. They even got into situational football a little bit.” Griffin said.
“It was good to see the guys and see what stuck. You throw it all on the board and see what sticks. I don’t think any of us could make an assumption of what our offense is going to be exactly like, but I do think we got in introduction into what coach Hue and (associate head coach-offense) Pep’s (Hamilton) coaching style is going to be and what they emphasize. I think that was really important and we got that out of the three days.”
