GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio- Heading into Thursday nights game against Revere, Lutheran East found themselves losers of three straight games. The Minutemen came in on a two-game winning streak looking to keep it alive.
In a game where the lead stayed under 10 points all night, it was Revere that would edge by Lutheran East 52-50.
Both teams started the game off to a slow start, but it was Revere that would slowly start to pull away. After Lutheran East gained a tight 8-7 lead early in the first quarter, the Minutemen would respond by ending the first quarter on a 10-2 run to lead 17-10.
The run was led by senior standout Pete Nance.
“He’s our guy. I mean what can I say, he does it all,” head coach Dean Rahas said. “ He’s multidimensional. The best thing is that he makes the guys around him better. He’s very unselfish and just a great kid.”
Lutheran East quickly turned things around after a slow start. They would outscore the Minutemen by nine points in the second quarter to take a slim two-point lead at the half. They left many points off the board with several missed layups and blocked shots. Jordan Burge would lead the Falcons to a lead at halftime by contributing with 12 points.
Jordan Burge would lead Lutheran East in scoring during the loss. He finished with a game-high 22 points. Nothing came easy for the senior as he had to battle the 6-foot-10 frame of Pete Nance every time he drove to the basket.
For the Minutemen, it was Pete Nance that led them in scoring. He had a team-high 21 points while also adding 11 rebounds, five assists, and seven blocked shots during the win.
“My teammates looked for me and got me the ball,” Pete Nance said. “I just tried to do what I can do on the floor. A lot of credit to my teammates for getting me the ball.”
Revere would keep battling back in the fourth quarter. They eventually took a 42-41 lead with just under four minutes left in the game. A late three-pointer from Lutheran East freshman EJ Farmer would tie the game at 50 with under 30 seconds. It was revere that would hang on with two late free throws to secure their third straight win.
“I’m really proud of how our guys responding,” head coach Dean Rahas said about taking a late fourth-quarter lead. “A lot of guys stepped up in the second half.”
Revere will look to keep the winning streak rolling as they host Nordonia on Friday, January 5. Lutheran East, on the other hand, will look to bounce back as they travel to play Warrensville Heights on the 5th of January as well.
