On the week of UFC 223, the 155-pound title fight between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov is once again off, according to a report from ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. Okamoto reported Sunday evening that Ferguson tore a ligament in his knee away from training and will be forced to miss his UFC Lightweight Title fight against Nurmagomedov for yet another time.
BREAKING NEWS: Tony Ferguson out of UFC 223. Max Holloway will step in on six days notice. Holloway vs. Khabib for 155 pound title.

Tony Ferguson injured his knee late last week. Ligament tore completely off the bone, I'm told. Not a training accident, freak accident.

Ferguson had won the interim title at UFC 217 against Kevin Lee and was gearing up to defend the belt and make himself the official titleholder. With current champion Conor McGregor out, the UFC is looking for a present titleholder and planned for this weekend’s fight to settle this
The fight for Khabib will still go on this Saturday, as current UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway stepped up to take the fight on extremely short notice. Holloway and Nurmagomedov will now be for the UFC Lightweight Championship in the main event of UFC 223.
I'm told Holloway is still in Hawaii, UFC making flight arrangements being made now. Khabib already in Brooklyn, as he was scheduled for a media day. Ferguson injury happened last Thursday, MRI this weekend showed torn knee. Heartbreaking.

It appears the UFC might be gearing up for a potential showdown consisting of Holloway against Conor McGregor if the Hawaiian were to win the title fight. The two last fought in 2013 when McGregor handed Holloway his last loss. Since then, Holloway has rattled off his current twelve-fight win streak that led him to the 145-pound crown.
